TISS & Leadership-next announce the launch of The Academy for Leadership Development.
Make In India - Leadership Development.

On 25th September, our honourable Prime Minister unveiled the ambitious Make in India campaign. On 2nd October, The Academy for Leadership Development was launched to pro-actively prepare & develop leaders for our future businesses & industry.
"We should celebrate Eastern Ideology and the Leadership position of scholars of yesteryear, and learn from their preaching on humanity, justice and leadership", said His Holiness, The Dalai Lama last week in TISS Mumbai. His Holiness was complementing TISS and Dr. S. Parasuraman, Director TISS, for incubating The Academy for Leadership Development in collaboration with Leadership-next and G Ravindran.

"Industry, with its resources and ability to create jobs, helps alleviate poverty, and plays a leading role in developing all sections of society”, said Dr. S. Parasuraman. “Industry leaders are best positioned to impact society & contribute to nation-building. The outlook of Leaders & their Development is therefore critical for the country’s future”, he added.

"Industry leaders are always looking for fresh insight”, said G. Ravindran, who was invited to be the Chair Professor, Leadership Development. “Contextually, the emerging East is going to be even more different & this calls for new perspectives and models for holistic growth. The Academy will lead this effort”, he said.
Make in India … represents a new mind-set, an attitudinal shift in how India relates as a business partner to development. On one hand it is about developing Industrial corridors, where manufacturing will be the key economic driver creating smart sustainable cities, logistic hubs and residential townships. On the other hand it is about doubling employment potential, tripling industrial output & quadrupling exports in the next 8 years. “It is all about newness ...new processes, new infrastructure, new sectors & a new mind-set”, said Ravindran. “All these new and varied initiatives will need one thing in common – Leadership. A new, next level leadership. A new mind-set, holistic & contextually relevant. It is with this precise vision that the Academy has been established”, said Ravindran, the new Chair Professor, Leadership Development.

Plans are underway to co-create avant-garde programs, by bringing together senior practitioners from industry, academia and subject-matter-experts. A whole new approach to design & delivery, using varied resources and knowledge from the eastern ethos, will make for best-in-class content that will be highly relevant to leaders in the emerging world.
The Academy will be an independent entity. Conceived as an industry collaboration, it will have member companies contributing to create the financial strength, thought leadership and governance, which will form the foundation and set the course for a world-class institution. Other reputed institutions, foundations and Corporates are being invited to join and support taking this institution to the next level.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.
TISS has earned recognition as an institution of repute from different Ministries of the Government of India; various State Governments; international agencies such as the United Nations, and the non-government sector, both national and international. A high degree of freedom and autonomy shape the positive work ethos and creativity in the Institute facilitating strong linkages between education, research, field action and dissemination.

Leadership Next is a knowledge domain for next-level leadership practices. Conceived by a team of senior professionals from industry, the firm aims to synergise the efforts of various institutions in the space of leadership development & learning. Leadership-next constantly seeks to promote inquiry to find and use newer and more effective ways to positively impact leadership learning. Leveraging varied knowledge resources, and evolving innovative methodologies is part of a holistic approach for creating conscious & sustainable enterprises, which will be the tipping point for societal development & nation building.
